For my Comm2 people

Welcome to the Ideation process! Remember, you want to come up with as many ideas for solutions to your problem as possible. Don’t judge them, don’t worry about if you think they might work or not, or if they cost to much, or seem impractical. Don’t worry if they seem too simple, or too complex. We want to assemble as many ideas as we possibly can. You should all have at least ten potential solutions.

Don’t be afraid to make a strange or completely off the wall solution. Make it interesting and have fun with it - remember, you’ll need to create a body of work around this idea, so be sure you are happy taking it on.

Next week we’ll keep working on the Ideation process, and by the end of class we should be able to narrow it down to 2 or 3 options that we can begin prototyping. This is when we’ll start doing sketches of actual deliverables and start making things. This should come easily, as you know so much about your problem at this point, and have been thinking about it for some time.

Remember, bonus points if you can somehow realize your project in the real world. Design does not exist in a vacuum, it has real effects on real people!

Don’t forget to:

• Do the readings in BMG and Inivisible Cities

• Blog posts for each

• Put the Canvasses we made in class on Tumblr

• Blog about the ideation process - I want you to come to class next week with at least 10 ideas and start working through them. Get started now and put it on Tumblr.

• 5 What if questions your problem.

• Do these things for the group and individual projects

• Don’t forget to draw and use the visual thinking section of BMG as a guide!
