For my Comm2 people
Welcome to the Ideation process! Remember, you want to come up with as many ideas for solutions to your problem as possible. Don’t judge them, don’t worry about if you think they might work or not, or if they cost to much, or seem impractical. Don’t worry if they seem too simple, or too complex. We want to assemble as many ideas as we possibly can. You should all have at least...
Community by Design

Last weekend, I found myself in a situation not unlike situations past, whereby I (designer) was being instructed by a group of individuals (non-designers) in the layout of a 12-page independent newspaper called Critical Moment. CM, which was first organized and published by graduate students at the University of Michigan, began in 2003 as a forum that could help...

We can see here that most people are using Firefox and Chrome.
Let’s get with it Philly! We...

The Dobkin Report: How to Learn to Make Clothing →

(I suppose you could just enroll yourself in a fashion program, but this is how I did it/am doing it)
1. Free yourself from mental oppression
2. Practice drawing, collect images, inspect your clothing. Buy fabric you won’t use for years but really like, try and mostly fail at teaching…

Engaging Millennials
I recently spoke on a panel hosted by the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage entitled Engaging Millennials: Beyond Social Media (or How Twitter Will Not Save Your Cultural Organization). Along with a group of fellow millennials, I spent an afternoon with representatives from 30 Philadelphia area arts organizations talking about ways to effectively engage new millennial audiences. We came to some...

The Dobkin Report: The Traveler →
thedobkinreport:
featured in the current issue of Megawords Magazine and the Megawords installation at PAFA
Anything worth noticing will be made obvious to a traveler. On his ambles, he gains a world sealed to the everyday person. In a state of grace he makes connections, he can discern the why. He has no…

Why I was a terrible student, and why I will be a...

I showed up for most classes, calculated how many absences I could accrue without serious penalty and completed enough work to avoid the instructor’s scrutiny. My attention was focused on going to punk shows,...
